95th Annual Hoʻolaulea Begins With A Rainy And Windy Start

This was a spot coverage story done on the day after the annual Hoʻolaulea fair. I attended that fair taking photos of vendors and the fairgoers throughout the day. Hoʻolaulea is a fair hosted by my high school every year that raises money for the graduating class and student activities. This event celebrates Hawaiian activities and culture.

A Day of Remembrance: December 7th

In honor of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, I wrote an article to inform people about the tragic events that unfolded on that fateful morning. I also wrote about the three remaining servicemen who were there that day: Don Stratton, Lou Conter and Ken Potts. 2019 marked the 78th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor Bombing.

The Battle Against Climate Change: One Tree At A Time

One of the teachers at school had brought in a guest speaker to come and talk to students about climate change. Dr. Mora, a UH Manoa professor, wanted to share his mission to plant a thousand native trees on the North Shore as a way to make a small impact on climate change. This presentation was a way to raise awareness and a call to action.

The March for Breast Cancer Awareness and Pauahi

As a school that receives negative press for past scandals, I wanted to highlight the good that our school does. On Oct. 8, Kamehameha Schools Kapālama campus held its walk for Pauahi event that honors those who suffer from breast cancer and to raise awareness. Pauahi is the founder of the Kamehameha Schools who gave her land and assets to trustees to create and maintain a school for Hawaiians. She passed away in 1831 due to breast cancer
